Praying for unity in my family: Karunanidhi

April 05, 2010 02:00 am | Updated 02:00 am IST - CHENNAI:

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday said it was his “prayer” — even though he did not believe in god — that his family should remain united. Punning on the word “kalai” (which means both “art” and “disturb” in Tamil), Mr. Karunanidhi said his was an artistic family and also one that could not and should not be disturbed and should remain united.

Mr. Karunanidhi was participating in the veena ‘arangetram' of his granddaughter Ezhilarasi Jothimani at The Music Academy. He said just as people and government could not be separated, music and pleasure could not be separated.

Music maestro Ilayaraja and vocalist Nithyasree Mahadevan were among those who participated.
