Police on Friday said they would probe the call details of two bookies held late last night for alleged betting in the ongoing IPL matches to ascertain possible connections with six of those already arrested from Chennai.

Analysis of phone call details and electronic devices of these two bookies is underway, which would also reveal their connections with other bookies, the CB-CID wing of the state police said.

“All those who are directly or indirectly connected will be investigated”, it said in a release.

Noting that investigation has been progressing well in the case, it said the arrest of Uttam C. Jain and Jasraj Jain last night would help them pursue new leads.

“The duo will be taken into police custody in due course. Now that the kingpin of cricket betting has been nabbed, the investigation shall pursue new leads”, it said.

The arrests would help CB-CID understand the modus operandi, extent of money involved in betting, how and where the money was received and distributed, it said.

The arrested bookies — Harish Bajaj, Virudhachalam, Lucky, Narpath Jain, Pappu, Praveen Kumar are being questioned, CB-CID said, adding it also planned to take kingpin Prashanth held here on May 20, into police custody.

The arrests of the six bookies in Chennai on May 17 followed searches at 13 locations across the city based on a tip off and came a day after three Rajasthan Royal cricketers, including pacer Sreesanth and 11 bookies were nabbed by Delhi police in the spot-fixing scandal.
