Cruelty to bulls continued unabated during jallikattu held in Tamil Nadu, despite claims that the State's law regulating the bull-taming game would reduce the extent of abuse inflicted on them, the Indian head of People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) said here on Thursday.
Poorva Joshipura, Chief Functionary of PeTA, India, told reporters that a team from her organisation did an investigation in five places where jallikattu was held Alanganatham in Namakkal district; Kullamade in Salem; Palamedu and Avaniapuram in Madurai and Kandrupatty in Sivaganga.
The organisation has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Tamil Nadu Regulation of Jallikattu Act 2009 on the ground that it allowed the sport to take place even though it was illegal and many of its provisions went against the PCA.

The matter was expected to come up for hearing next week, she added.
