Sivaganga/Ramanathapuram: Sivaganga town unit of the AIADMK has pledged support to Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam and adopted a resolution, urging the party MP and district secretary P.R. Senthilnathan and two MLAs to strengthen his hands.
Hours after the Supreme court delivered the judgement, convicting party general secretary V.K. Sasikala in the disproportionate wealth case, the town unit office-bearers, led by its secretary Anandan, held an urgent meeting here on Tuesday and adopted a resolution, pledging their support to Mr. Panneerselvam.
They said Mr. Panneerselvam was twice chosen by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to be at the helm of affairs when she had to step down as Chief Minister due to legal wrangles.

In another resolution, the town unit appealed to Mr. Senthilnathan, Sivaganga MLA and Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board G. Baskaran and Manamadurai MLA S. Mariappan Kennedy to pledge their support to Mr. Panneerselvam.
About 40 party functionaries carried portraits of former Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa and raised slogans in support of Mr. Panneerselvam.
Those supported Mr. Panneerselvam included town unit treasurer Sikkandar and office-bearer Mohan. The party would remain united only if all supported the hands of the Chief Minister, they said.

In Ramanathapuram, members of Deepa Peravai and supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam celebrated the conviction of Sasikala and others by bursting crackers and distributing sweets to the public at the palace area. While P.R. Srinivasan, former councillor, led the supporters of Mr. Panneerselvam, the Deepa Peravai was led by Muniasamy, also a former councillor.
