The Congress high command would shortly announce a committee for holding seat-sharing talks with Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for the coming Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K.V.Thangkabalu said here on Sunday.

He was talking to presspersons after admitting Mylapore MLA and comedy actor S.Ve. Shekher into the party.

Mr. Thangkabalu said Mr. Shekher's entry would fill the vacuum that the State unit had been facing in terms of participation of those from the field of art for quite some time. Those who welcomed Mr.Shekher into the party included Union Minister for Shipping G.K.Vasan and former TNCC presidents E.V.K.S. Elangovan and Kumari Ananthan.

Mr. Shekher said his entry into politics was in 1991, when he contested the Assembly election as an Independent but lost.

In 2006, he was elected from the Mylapore constituency on All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ticket.

However, the party leadership chose to dispense with him. “Now I am joining the national party and will be with it till my end.”
