Puthiya Tamizhagam, a dalit-based political party, today sought reservation for SC/ST in the proposed Tamil Nadu Legislative Council.

Chief Minister, M Karunanidhi should take up the issue with the Centre and also the Chief Election Commissioner, otherwise it would be “total injustice” to this section of the society, as the council was revived after more than two decades, PT President K Krishnasamy told reporters.

On joining the AIADMK alliance, Mr. Krishnasamy said his party’s main agenda was to remove the DMK Government in the next assembly elections, “since the four year rule has not benefited the poor and weaker sections of the society.” DMK has also failed in implementing its election promises of providing three cent land to the homeless and also two acres to the landless farmers, he alleged.

PT would stage State-wide protests on the sixth of Sept, Oct and Nov demanding implementation of these promises and also closure of all Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) shops, liquor outlets run by Government, he said.

The strategy for ousting the DMK in the coming elections would be discussed at the party’s conference to commemorate the 14th formation day, date and place of which would be announced later, Mr. Krishnasamy said.
