Pattali Makkal Katchi leader S. Ramadoss has welcomed the DMK’ s resolution urging the Centre to give permanent resident status to Sri Lankan refugees living in various camps in the State.

In a statement here on Tuesday, Dr. Ramadoss said though the resolution was a belated one he welcomed it. Already countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, UK, France and Germany had given the permanent resident status to the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in those countries. India should have given the status to the Tamil refugees long back.

Dr. Ramadoss also wanted to know the follow up measures to be taken by the Chief Minister to make the resolution a reality. Whether the Chief Minister was going to write to the Central Government, or send a delegation of party MPs to the Prime Minister or meet personally the Prime Minister or adopt a resolution in this connection in the Assembly, he asked.

His only concern was that the resolution should not meet the fate of resolutions such as on State autonomy, Tamil as an official language of the Central Government, and on Katchatheevu, which were being repeatedly adopted by the DMK in its conferences without any result.
