One killed in explosion at a cracker unit

CONTINUING MISERY:The working shed at a cracker unit in Kandiyapuram near Sattur which was razed to the ground when crackers exploded on Thursday.

An explosion at a cracker unit claimed the life of a worker, S. Chinnathambi alias Kaleeswaran (44), and injured two others at Kandiyapuram near Sattur on Thursday.

The police said that friction caused when the workers were filling chemicals in ground chakkars led to the fire that resulted in the blast.

While Chinnathambi of Pandhuvarpatti was killed on the spot, two other workers – J. Jeyasingh (38) of Panaiyadipatti and M. Chellappan (45) of Pullagoundapatti –sustained bleeding injuries.

They were admitted to Sivakasi Government Hospital.

One of the working sheds was razed to the ground.

Around 60 workers were employed in the cracker unit when the explosion occurred.

Elayirampannai police are investigating.
