Numismatics and philatelic exhibition, a crowd-puller

School students having a look at the coins at the numismatic and philatelic exhibition in Tiruchengode on Saturday.

Coins of various eras and stamps of various countries are on display at the two-day numismatics and philatelic exhibition that got under way at the Kongu community hall in the town on Saturday.

The exhibition has been brought up by the Tiruchengode Numismatics and Philatelic Association. Pon Saraswathi, MLA, declared the exhibition open. Copper, lead, silver, gold and nickel coins of Mughal, Chola, Chera, East Indian Company and British era have been exhibited in the expo.

The stamps of India and other countries explaining the various developments that have taken place in different fields during different periods have been attracting people, specially students.

Besides, coins and old coins, stamp papers, antique gramophone, gramophone records, old locks, and post cards are also on display. The exhibition has provided an opportunity for the local public to understand the country’s historical and cultural achievements depicted in the coins and stamps.

Palanisamy, president of the Coimbatore Numismatics and Philatelic Association, and Golden Saravanan, president of the Tiruchengode Numismatics and Philatelic Association, urged the Centre to bring out medals explaining the cultural and historical background of Tamil society.
