Notice ordered on complaint from film producer

January 21, 2011 11:21 pm | Updated 11:21 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court has ordered notice on an application by a film producer seeking a direction to Ekaveera Creations, producer of Tamil film ‘Kaavalan', starring Vijay and Asin, to include his name in the credit title of the film as was originally published in all pre-released advertisements as well as in the audio cassettes, DVDs and CDs.

Justice V.Ramasubramanian passed the order on an application in a suit by Cinema Paradise, represented by its sole proprietor, C.Dinakaran also known as Sakthi Chidambaram of Saligramam here. He adjourned the matter to January 24. Mr.Dinakaran submitted that all rights which otherwise would have been with Ekaveera Creations were sold, transferred and assigned to Cinema Paradise as if he were the owner/negative rights holder.

He said the defendant had removed his name in all the newspaper advertisements, wall posters, publicity hoardings and movie prints on January 13, a day prior to the release of the film.

The defendant's action was incomprehensible and could not be accepted. In the plaint, he prayed the court to appoint an Advocate-Commissioner to seize all the released prints of the film and to incorporate his name in the credit title as “Sakthi Chidambaram Cinema Paradise presents.”
