The Tamil Nadu government on Thursday submitted the Prison Advisory Board (PAB)'s report to the Madras High Court, which is hearing an appeal against a single Judge order regarding the premature release of Nalini, a life convict in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
After perusing the report, the Bench, comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and K.K. Sasidharan, returned it to Advocate-General P.S. Raman. The Advocate-General sought two weeks time and the Bench posted the matter for March 29.
When the appeal came up, Mr. Raman said the government had received the board's report and was examining it.

The report was only advisory in nature and not binding on the government.
The Advocate-General said he did not know the contents of the report. He was given to understand that the Home Department had asked for some other particulars from the board.
The government would take a final decision. He sought time. If, in the meanwhile, the government took a decision in the matter, the court would be informed.

Mr. Justice Elipe Dharma Rao said there should be no delay in taking a decision.
In a brief order, the Bench said the Advocate-General submitted the PAB's report as directed by the court. The Bench went through it. It was for the government to consider and take a decision to pass appropriate orders for which the Advocate-General sought time.
The court posted the matter for March 29.
