S. Beggin (35) of Colachel was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for kidnapping and raping a girl studying SSLC on October 1, 2006.
The girl was kidnapped by the accused while she was going to a church. Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s family, Colachel police have registered a case and were investigating.
Mahalir Court Judge A. Kayalvizhi sentenced the accused to 10 years of imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs. 83,000.

If he failed to pay the fine, he would undergo another one year and four and a half months of imprisonment, the Judge said and ordered that Rs. 80,000 must be paid from the fine amount to the rape victim for medical expenses. As the accused failed to appear before the court, the judged issued an arrest warrant.
