MUTA warns government of “direct action”

December 12, 2010 10:58 pm | Updated 10:58 pm IST - MADURAI:

The Madurai Kamaraj, Manonmaniam Sundaranar, Mother Teresa and Alagappa University Teachers' Association (MUTA) has warned the government that it would launch a “direct action” if the State government goes ahead with its move to convert colleges into unitary universities. The association said that it would organise picketing and indefinite strike if the government attempted to bring the Bills for unitary universities.

The general council meeting of MUTA was held here on Saturday to take a decision on intensifying the struggle against conversion of government-aided colleges into unitary universities.

The MUTA has requested the government to protect the interests of common people and social justice. It made an appeal not to pursue neo-liberal policies in higher education.
