Khushbu to contest for film producers council post

Actor Vishal announced on Sunday that actor Khushbu, who is also the national spokesperson of the Congress, will be contesting elections to the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council in Tamil Nadu.

In a statement, Mr. Vishal, who is the general secretary of the Nadigar Sangam, said several individuals, backed by teams, were likely to contest the elections and that his team backed Ms. Khushbu as the presidential candidate.

Aranmanai 2 ,

Theeya Velai Seyyanum Kumaru, and

Giri under the banner Avni Cinemax.

“I thank Vishal and his team for believing that I am capable of contesting for the post. The rest of the team who will be contesting for the other posts will be announced soon ,” she said.

In November 2016, Mr. Vishal was temporarily suspended from the producers council after giving an interview to a Tamil film magazine in which he criticised the functioning of the office-bearers of the council. In a notice, the council said comments made by him had affected the unity and discipline within the organisation.

Mr. Vishal responded by saying that he would continue to raise questions about the functioning of the council. He had alleged the producers’ body had done very little to curb video piracy. He had then stressed on the need to conduct elections to the council and for a young team of producers to contest and address these issues effectively.
