Karunanidhi inaugurates new police momorial

Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi on Sunday inaugurated the new Police Memorial at the office of the Director General of Police (DGP) office, to commemorate the memory of the police personnel who laid their lives while discharging duties.

DGP K.P.Jain and all senior police officials attended the function.

The granite memorial sculpted by A.V.Elango, depicts the role of the police personnel in protecting the society from criminal and anti-national forces.

Two policemen at the bottom of the ramp are shown in an encounter situation. One policeman is saving a victim while another is pinning down a criminal. Two policemen in the middle are seen shielding a leader from anti-national elements. A police officer on the top of the ramp is holding the national flag.

A press release from the DGP office said the Police Commemoration Day was celebrated every year on October 21. The history of Commemoration dates back to October 21, 1959 when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol party led by sub-inspector Karam Singh was ambushed by Chinese Forces at Hot Springs. Ten jawans were killed in the incident.
