Jeevitha received her allotment letter to the Electronics and Communications Engineering in the Tirukkuvalai campus of Anna University from Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Sunday.The Chief Minister said that he was happy that a girl, who belonged to the Scheduled Caste and the first from her family to graduate, had chosen the college located in his hometown.
Accompanied by Union Minister A. Raja, State Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy and State Food Minister E.V. Velu, and Higher Education Secretary K. Ganesan, Mr. Karunanidhi, in what could be the first visit of a Chief Minister to Anna University, inspected the counselling process. He interacted with students and parents and spoke to officials about the process.
Later, answering questions, he said the government's tuition fee waiver scheme for first generation graduate students and the Tamil medium engineering courses were becoming popular.

“Over 13,000 students have availed themselves of the tuition fee waiver, and the Tamil medium education which we talked about at the World Classical Tamil Conference has also been popular with 149 students taking it up till now. I believe and hope that this number will increase,” he said.
On the issue of fake mark sheets submitted by some students, he said legal action would be taken. Mr. Karunanidhi said authorities would look at the working of touts and take action on complaints brought to their notice.
He asked parents and students to be careful and not to be cheated.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress in the construction of the Anna Centenary Library being constructed in Kotturpuram.
