Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president M. Karunanidhi on Tuesday called upon all political parties to overcome their differences and take a pledge for ensuring equality and justice to all and brotherhood in the country.
In a statement on the occasion of the conclusion of birth centenary celebrations of DMK founder and former Chief Minister, C.N. Annadurai, the DMK leader called for assimilation and adoption of the ideals and policies of Annadurai so that people could enjoy all their rights. He wanted the people to be determined in espousing the cause of state autonomy, which was continuously highlighted by Annadurai in Parliament and in people’s fora.
In the morning, Mr. Karunanidhi paid floral tributes to the statue of Annadurai near Valluvar Kottam in Nungambakkam. On behalf of the government, M.K. Stalin, Deputy Chief Minister, and Parithi Elamvazhuthi, Information Minister, paid homage to the portrait of the former Chief Minister kept near the statue of the DMK founder on Anna Salai.

To mark the conclusion of the centenary celebration, Mr. Stalin handed over orders for promoting 11 special grade and selection grade marketing assistants of ‘Aavin’ (Tamil Nadu Milk Producers’ Federation) to checking superintendents. Since the present regime took over in May 2006, 298 officials of the Federation and District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Unions were promoted.
Mr. Stalin also launched various Aavin products – milk sweets and ghee sweets. A packet of assorted sweets, weighing 550 gram, would cost Rs.125, according to an official release.
U. Madhivanan, Dairy Development Minister, and C. Muthukumaraswamy, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Secretary, and Apurva Varma, ‘Aavin’ Managing Director and Dairy Development Commissioner, were among those present.
