The Indian National League (INL) on Thursday dissolved its Tamil Nadu unit after some office-bearers claimed that they would convene a meeting of the party's ‘national executive' and ‘expel' INL president Mohammed Sulaiman.
In a statement, Mr. Sulaiman dubbed the meeting sought to be convened on Saturday as illegal and unauthorised. The State president and general secretary were seeking to create confusion among the party rank and file in Tamil Nadu.
Therefore, he was dissolving the State unit with immediate effect and expelling State president Syed Inayatullah, general secretary Y Zahiruddin and two others from the party's primary membership.

Mr. Sulaiman appointed former MLA M.G.K. Nizamuddin as convener and J Abdul Rahim as co-convener of the Tamil Nadu unit for organising the INL State committee within a month.
Mr. Inayathullah and Mr. Zahiruddin said in a statement that Mr. Sulaiman was associating himself with those who had been expelled from the State unit for working against the party's interests.
The State unit had decided to expel Mr. Sulaiman and the decision would be “ratified at the national executive meeting to be held in Chennai on January 22.”
