Green awareness rally launched in Thanjavur

To mark World Environment Day celebrations

The Clean Thanjavur Movement along with the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board organised a green awareness rally here on Tuesday to propagate “Clean India” campaign on account of the World Environment Day celebrations.

Collector N. Subbiayan flagged off the rally in the presence of Superintendent of Police R. Sudhakar, District Environmental Engineer, TNPCB; Samuel Rajkumar, Clean Thanjavur Movement Coordinator; and Periyar Maniammai University Vice-Chancellor N. Ramachandran, Periyar Maniammai University Registrar S. Sridharan; M.R. Hospitals Managing Director Dr. Radhika Michael; Red Cross treasurer Muthukumar; and Dean (in charge) of the Thanjavur Medical College S. Elangovan.

The rally wound through the main thoroughfares of the city to culminate at the Old Collectorate Museum premises.

The aim of the rally was to sensitize the public, youth and students to the need for ensuring a clean, green and healthy Thanjavur and to continually utilise the services of the participants to make Thanjavur district a role model in greening efforts.

Students and volunteers from various schools, colleges, and universities in Thanjavur, Junior Red Cross, NSS, NCC, Scouts and Guides members, Eco-Club volunteers as well as Rotary Club, Lions Club, and Jaycees Club as various non-governmental organisations hospitals including Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, Meenakshi Hospital, and Vinothagan Hospital participated in the rally.
