A 17-year-old girl, who was studying Plus Two in Sri Parvathavarthini Amman Girls Higher Secondary School in Rameswaram, was found dead on the railway track near Uchipulli railway station on Monday night.
Railway police said the girl, B. Yamuna, who had left home on Monday evening for attending tuition class in Rameswaram, reached Uchipuli and allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train.
The girl’s mother had accompanied her to the bus stand in Rameswaram and left after the girl boarded a bus to reach the tuition centre. The girl, instead of going to the tuition centre, reached Rameswaram bus stand, and took a bus to Uchipuli.

She could have probably jumped in front of Rameswaram– Kanyakumari Super Fast Express, which left Rameswaram around 8 p.m. on Monday. The body was sent to Ramanathapuram Government Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.
The girl had a SIM card, a syringe used for filling ink and the bus ticket in her valet. Preliminary investigation revealed that it was a case of suicide. The police, however, did not find any suicide note.
The girl’s mother told the police that her daughter was normal at home. The police suspected that she could have ended her life as she was not good at studies. Tamil Nadu Railway Police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
