Four held for attacking AIADMK cadre

Four persons have been arrested for inflicting injuries on a group of AIADMK activists in Marudham village near Wallajahbad on Sunday night.

According to the police, a group of persons, allegedly led by village panchayat president Illanchezihan, owing allegiance to the DMK, came to the house of Chakrapani at Marudham and attacked him on Sunday night for accompanying Murugan, an AIADMK activist, to Wallajahbad police station for lodging a complaint against local DMK functionaries who allegedly damaged a digital banner put up by the AIADMK to highlight the 2-G scam.

On hearing the commotion near Chakrapani's house, Murugan, his wife and former village panchayat president, Selvi, Jothi Pandiyan, Prakash, Rani and others rushed to Chakrapani's support. They were attacked by the gang.

The injured were rushed to the Government District Headquarters hospital.

Chakrapani, who was referred to Chengalpattu Medical College hospital, preferred a complaint with the police on Monday.

Subsequently Rajendran, Ramu, Kumar and Panneer of Marudham village were arrested.

The police are on the lookout for Illanchezhian.
