The District Collector, V. Sampath, has issued a flood warning in nine villages situated on the banks of River Cauvery near Mettur Dam, following reports of widespread rainfall in the catchment areas of River Cauvery in Karnataka State.
A press release of the collector issued here on Thursday said that following widespread rainfall in the catchment areas, the inflow into Mettur Dam is expected to increase.
He asked residents of the villages of Govindapadi; Kaveripuram; Karungallur; Kottaiyur; Pannavadi; Settipatti; Sinna Mettur; Konur West; Koonandiyur; Mettur Town; Kolnayakkanpatti and Poolampatti to move to places of safety.

The villagers were informed about the flood warning by the revenue officials through beating of drums.
J. Meghanath Reddy, Sub-Collector, Mettur, also held discussion with the revenue and PWD officials on Wednesday evening on the inflow of water into Mettur Dam and the precautionary measures to be taken in case of floods.
The Mettur Dam was receiving an inflow of 9,048 cusecs on Thursday. The water level stood at 54.54 feet against its full level of 120 feet. The storage level was 20.791 tmc.

About 2,000 cusecs of water is being discharged from the Dam into River Cauvery for meeting the drinking water needs of the Cauvery delta region.
