Five die as mini-cargo carrier rams roadside tree near Vandavasi

The mini cargo carrier that rammed a road side tree near Vandavasi on Monday. Five girivalam devotees were killed in the accident.

Five persons were killed and eight others injured when a mini-cargo carrier in which they were travelling rammed a roadside tree near Aaraasur early on Monday.

Returning after performing ‘Girivalam'

E. Gopalakrishnan (52) of Soraputhur, owner of the vehicle, had taken his relatives for performing ‘Girivalam' in Tiruvannamalai on Sunday.

They were returning to Soraputhur near Vandavasi when the vehicle met with the accident.

Deenadayalan (7), son of Govindaraj of Uthiramerur, died on the spot. Those who sustained injuries were rushed to Vandavasi Government Hospital. However, three of them, including Gopalakrishnan, Sakunthala (60) of Keezh Seesamangalam and Vasanthi of Chennai succumbed to injuries. Others were referred to Chengalpattu Government Medical College where Santhi (45) wife of Gopalakrishnan died. Others are being treated at Chengalpattu Medical College Hospital.
