Face painting contest

Over 60 students participated in an inter-departmental face painting competition organised by the Department of Fashion Technology and Costume Designing of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College. Participants painted models in various styles including fantasy and horror. The competition helped the students to exhibit their hidden talents, according to a press release from the college. Best depictions got prizes.

Talk on French literature

The PG and Research Department of English, St. Joseph's College, organised a lecture on “The great French works translated into English.” Hermon, Head, Department of French, St. Joseph’s College, was the resource person. He gave a bird’s eye view of the French literature. S. Joseph Arul Jayaraj, Head, Department of English, spoke.

Coaching

programme

A coaching programme for Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) clerk / officer examinations was inaugurated at Urumu Dhanalakshmi College. Forty students from various departments of the college were selected after a screening test. They will be given intensive coaching for three months by in-house faculty team for the examinations. K. Ramanujam, General Manager, PLA-NEXA, Tiruchi, the chief guest, motivated the students to develop strong will power to achieve their goals. G.N. Srinivasan, secretary of the college, P. Sakthivel, Principal, and A. Mohan, coordinator, spoke.

Chemistry of GFP

R. Selvam, former Head, Zoology Department, Bishop Heber College, spoke on “The chemistry of Green Fluorescent Proteins (GFP)” under the auspices of the Space and Sputnik, PG and Research Department of Chemistry, Seethalakshmi Ramaswami College. He explained the characteristics and uses of GFP. Selvameena, vice-principal, and R. Santhi, associate professor, spoke.

Indoor stadium declared open

R. Kamalakannan, Puducherry Minister for Education, declared open the in-door stadium at Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College in Karaikal recently. P. Poongavanam, Principal, said the facility formed part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the college. R. Radhakrishnan, Member of Parliament, offered felicitations. V. Shanmugasundaram, Superintending Engineer, Public Works Department, presented a report on the indoor stadium.

Skill development programme

A two-day skill development programme was organised under the auspices of Chenduran Polytechnic College near Tirumayam in Pudukottai district. R.R. Ganesan, from the 7th Sense Academy, Kasturi Rangan and Vinoji Praveen were the resource persons. R. Vairavan, Principal, A.V.M. Selvaraj, Executive Director, and T. Thiyagarajan, secretary, spoke. A feedback on the impact of the training was held at the valediction of the training in which students explained its benefits.

Kamaraj

remembered

Under the auspices of the H.H. The Rajah’s College in Pudukottai, the birth anniversary of the late Kamaraj was celebrated recently.

S. Arockiasamy, founder of the Tamizh Desiya Ilakkiya Mandram, spoke on the role played by Kamaraj in bringing about a revolution in the education scenario in the state. M. Rajendran, Principal (in-charge), urged the students to emulate the example of great leaders like Kamaraj. C. Sethuraman, faculty member, spoke.
