Dr. Kurien Award for Erode Milk Union founder

Ninety-three-year-old S.K. Paramasivan, founder chairman of the Erode District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union, was honoured with the prestigious Dr. Kurien Award 2010 on Wednesday for his services in the field of milk co-operatives. The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh, was presented to him at the 38th National Dairy Industry Conference in Bangalore. It has been instituted by the Indian Dairy Association in the name of Dr. Verghese Kurien, architect of the country’s ‘white revolution.’

In his written speech after receiving the award, Mr. Paramasivan recalled how the Anand pattern of dairy co-operative system was adopted through a government order in Tamil Nadu in 1978.
