Disciplinary action against five panchayat secretaries for consuming liquor

Revenue Divisional Officer, Salem, C. Vijaybabu, has recommended disciplinary action against five panchayat secretaries who were found consuming liquor in the village panchayat office in Minnampalli village on Friday.

Mr. Vijaybabu conducted surprise inspection in the fair price shops at Ayothiyapattanam and Vazhappadi towns on Friday. Later, he visited the Minnampalli VAO office.

On hearing unusual noise from the village panchayat office situated nearby, he visited the spot and found five persons consuming liquor during the office hours. He directed the officials to conduct an enquiry and identify the persons who were misusing the government office for the consumption of liquor.

The official team identified five persons, including panchayat secretaries of Minnampalli, Karumapuram and Pallapatti.

All the five were sent to the government hospital for medical examination.

Based on the findings of the medical examination, Mr. Vijaybabu forwarded reports to the District Collector and Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, recommending disciplinary action against all the five, official sources said.
