A couple of audio DVDs on rare collection of ‘kirtans' composed by poets and saints and sung by a galaxy of eminent singers, were released as part of the eleventh anniversary of the Dr. Chinnamoulana Memorial Trust here recently.

While the first DVD comprises about 235 kirtans composed by Swathi Tirunal; the other DVD has a collection of about 290 Tamil songs composed by Papanasam Sivan, Gopalakrishna Bharathi and Oothukadu Venkatasubbaiyer.

“Music learners often find it difficult to access some ‘kirtan' or other and have to run from pillar to post in search of the same. But, the DVDs will meet their demand to a great extent,” says Kasim, Trustee of the Dr. Chinnamoulana Memorial Trust. The DVD would help to understand the pitch of the music. “There are a large number of Tamil composers and their compositions will be compiled in future,” Mr. Kasim added. V. Gopalakrishnan, former Executive Director of Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited, who compiled the collections, released the DVDs and the first discs were received by P. K. Thiagarajan, president, Board of Trustees of Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.
