DMK cadre observe fast against Assembly incidents

Condemning the recent pandemonium in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and the alleged “attack” on their working president M.K. Stalin during the bedlam, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadre observed fast at several places in the southern districts on Wednesday.

In the hunger strike organised at Jawahar Grounds in Palayamkottai, MLAs T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, A.L.S. Lakshmanan and Poongothai Aladi Aruna;, office-bearers Abdul Wahab, Suba. Seetharaman, former MLA N. Maalairaja and former councillors participated.

In the agitation organised at Valliyoor, former Speaker R. Avudaiyappan, former MLA M. Appavu and senior office-bearers took part.

Speakers at the protest venue said problem brewed in the Assembly after Speaker P. Dhanapal denied secret voting on the motion on trust vote moved by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

A good number of Congress functionaries also participated in the fast.

Thoothukudi district secretary N. Periyasami, who led the fast at Chidambara Nagar in Thoothukudi, described the Assembly incidents as “brutal murder of democracy.” He also accused the Assembly Speaker of acting in a biased manner on the day when trust vote was called. Along with Congress functionaries, those who participated in the fast included DMK MLAs P. Geetha Jeevan and Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, and S. Joel, State deputy secretary of DMK Youth Wing.

A similar protest was held at Kovilpatti.
