Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MLAs T.P.M. Mohideen Khan of Palayamkottai and A.L.S. Lakshmanan of Tirunelveli submitted separate petitions to Collector M. Karunakaran on Monday.
In his petition, Mr. Lakshmanan said that the building housing the Tirunelveli MLA office near the Exhibition Grounds was in a bad shape and stinking and that the dilapidated structure was badly in need of renovation. Hence, the Collector should instruct the officials to repair the building at the earliest so that he could formally inaugurate the office on June 10 as planned.
He also said that a Tasmac-run IMFL retail outlet near the office should either be closed or shifted as people from various walks of life, particularly women, came to the office to submit petitions.

Mr. Lakshmanan also said that water from Papanasam dam should be released in Tirunelveli and Kodagan channels on June 1 as it would ensure commencement of ‘kar’ paddy cultivation on over 12,000 acres.
In his petition, Mr. Mohideen Khan said that the multipurpose indoor stadium at VOC Stadium in Palayamkottai, which was constructed with funds allotted by various MLAs and MPs from their Constituency Development Fund after getting special permission from the State government when the DMK was in power between 2006 and 2011, was yet to be opened though it was ready for use.
Since the inauguration of the stadium had been delayed for “political reasons,” the Collector should intervene and ensure its early inauguration.

He also said that the stadium should be given a facelift by ensuring proper drainage facility and repairing the children’s play equipment on the northern side.
