Counselling for admissions to engineering colleges in the State will begin on June 28, Higher Education Minister K. Ponmudy announced here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Vice-Chancellors of universities, Mr. Ponmudy said the counselling process is scheduled to take 27 days and will end on July 25. This year's process would be 15 days shorter than the previous year's counselling, he said.

The counselling handbook had been prepared and the department had consulted the School Education department and the Medical Education directorate to ensure smooth coordination. Replying to a query on whether deemed universities would be accommodated in the counselling if the Supreme Court decided to accept the Union government's recommendations, he said the matter had not been resolved yet.

The government was hoping that they would be affiliated back to Anna University and it was ready to accommodate them in the counselling if required, he said.

On the action taken against colleges on which raids had been conducted last year on charges of collecting capitation fees, he said the report had been sent to the AICTE and it was up to that body to act against the erring colleges.
