Councillors raise issue of bad roads

An urgent council meeting convened by Chairperson M. Meena Dev here on Friday witnessed heated arguments over the issue of poor quality of roads in the municipality.

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam councillors raised the issue of poor quality of roads laid by the municipality with Rs. 12 crore allocated by the State government. They charged that the roads, which were laid after the completion of underground drainage works, were over of poor quality. At one point of time, AIADMK councillor Sri Manikandan threw a paper on the Chairperson.

Irked over this, Bharatiya Janata Party councillors had heated arguments with their AIADMK counterparts. They wanted the Chairperson to suspend the councillor who threw the paper.

Meanwhile, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam members demanded a detailed discussion on the issue. Councillor, Sagayaraj, walked out of the meeting, condemning the Chairperson for not allowing a debate on the issue.

Earlier, the councillors had submitted a petition signed by 15 of them to the Chairperson.
