Collector’s absence irks MP

July 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - DHARMAPURI:

The Member of Parliament for Dharmapuri constituency Anbumani Ramadoss stormed out of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting on Friday after the Committee’s secretary and District Collector K. Vivekanandan absented himself from the meeting.

This brought to fore the simmering disengagement of the district administration with Dr. Anbumani as has been alleged by the PMK on several occasions.

Dr. Anbumani is the chairman of the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee that reviews the Central government schemes and the use of funds allocated towards these schemes. Mr. Vivekanandan is the secretary of the Committee.

This is the fifth meeting of the District Committee and the Collector had not attended a single meeting, which is essentially to review the functioning of the Central government schemes and the use of funds allocated, Dr.Anbumani alleged.

Dr. Anbumani had on earlier occasions alleged a Centre- State gridlock of sorts, as Collector Vivekanandan boycotted his events, instead of using him to push for Central funds for the district.

Incidentally, the Committee was slated to meet on Thursday, but the Collector had informed of his non-availability since he was travelling on July 14.

As per his request, the meeting was rescheduled for July 15, Friday.

However, Mr.Vivekanandan failed to turn up, said another source.

The Hindu attempted to contact the Collector for his statement, but he was incommunicado.
