A Cambodian ship has dropped illegal anchor near Nagapattinam Port.

The vessel Lady Alla, carrying a cargo of 8400 tonnes of ceramic clay, was denied entry to the Karikal Marg Port by authorities on Thursday night in compliance with the Bombay High Court orders issued to the port authorities. The vessel later dropped anchor near Nagore, some 10 km from the Nagapattinam Port. The hazy weather had rendered the vessel invisible till Friday evening. When it was brought to the notice of the Nagapattinam Port authorities, the Customs was alerted. A Customs crew that was sent to board the vessel returned due to hazy visibility.

The orders were in pursuance of a legal dispute between the purchaser and the supplier concerning outstanding payments.

According to Anbarasan, Port Officer, Nagapattinam, the orders were on lines of maritime lien, where the port authority has the lien to hold the ship. However, the court had not served the order to Nagapattinam Port. The Coast Guard, Navy, Customs and Coastal Police were alerted, Mr. Anbarasan said.
