It was an occasion that came to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi after a gap of over 40 years.

Concluding the debate in the Assembly on the demands for grants to the Public Works Department (PWD), Mr. Karunanidhi recalled that he moved the demands for the first time in 1967 when C.N. Annadurai headed the first Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government. “I have got an opportunity after a gap of 43 years to move the demands and reply to the debate,” he said, amid thumping of desks.

In the intervening period, several persons including Durai Murugan had been the Minister concerned and carried out their functions well, he added.
