Crime Branch CID team continued questioning the members of the armed reserve police special team, which escorted the cash-laden parcel van attached to the Salem–Chennai Egmore Express, for the second consecutive day on Saturday.
Amit Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Tirunelveli, who had served as Salem Superintendent of Police till a couple of weeks ago, has been drafted as special investigation officer for the CB-CID and he arrived here on Saturday.
Mr. Singh and with G. Nagajothi, Superintendent of Police, CB CID, quizzed seven of the nine members of the special team at the CB-CID office in the morning and evening sessions.

C. R. Nagarajan, Assistant Commissioner of Police, the leader of the team and an Inspector of Police, a team member, did not appear.
The CB-CID team also quizzed the manager and seven employees of a private lorry agency who loaded the currency boxes in the parcel van at the goods yard last Monday evening.
Ms. Nagajothi along with R. Rajmohan, Divisional Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, and senior CB CID officials visited the Salem Railway Junction on late Friday evening and saw for herself the formalities followed in the transportation of consignments. The SP watched the arrival of the Mettur Dam–Salem– Erode passenger on platform No. 2, the attachment of the Chennai complement of the Mettur train and the money loaded parcel van with the Salem–Chennai Egmore Express, which was waiting on Platform 1A.

Railway officials explained the formalities and security arrangements adopted when the train commenced its onward journey on Monday. Ms. Nagajothi made inquiries on the lapse of security arrangements with the junction staff and the employees of the railway parcel office.
