Building rule violations: AAP to move court

November 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated December 02, 2016 05:55 pm IST - Tirupur:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is all set to move court against commercial establishments here which had violated building rules.

S. Sundarapandian, the party’s district convener, said the decision to make a legal move was being contemplated as the repeated representations to district administration and local planning authority asking them to take action against violators did not yield requisite responses.

“We have collected the details of violations made by many commercial establishments alongside Kumaran road, Tirupur-Palladam road and Tirupur-Dharapuram road,” he added.

According to him, the violations have been mostly in the areas of parking spaces and construction of additional floors.

“For example, a showroom has showed parking space in the building plan to accommodate certain number of cars and motorcycles. But in real terms, the space provided is much less than the approved plan,” he added.

A few other buildings now have additional floors without approval.

“Other grey area is the lack of fire fighting and evacuation facilities in many commercial buildings.

“Our main appeal has been that the authorities should carry out checks at frequent intervals which could have unearthed these violations. Unfortunately, this is not happening,” said Mr. Sundarapandian.
