Bill on display of digital banners passed

January 13, 2011 11:32 pm | Updated 11:32 pm IST - CHENNAI:

A Bill governing the installation and period of display of digital banners was passed by the Assembly.

According to the legislation, no digital banner or placard for exhibiting advertisement or information would be allowed exceeding six days without obtaining prior permission from the District Collector. Every application for permission should be made in writing to the Collector 15 days prior to the date of erection of digital banners or placards.

At present, digital banners were covered under the definition of ‘hoarding' in the laws for urban local bodies. As the digital banners and placards were used for specific purpose for a specified period, the government decided that a separate provision might be made in respect of digital banners and placards.
