Addressing a meeting before launching the yatra on a van, he said ‘Tirukural’ is a great literary work which preached humaneness.

‘Tirukural’ is a classic Tamil literature authored by Thiruvalluvar. “It is a literary work about which not only Tamils...but the Indian community as a whole can feel proud of. It has been decided by the government to celebrate the birth anniversary of the poet through out the nation and also popularise ‘Tirukural’ in schools and colleges,” he said.

The government is also determined to popularise the works of patriotic poet Subramania Bharati, he said.

The yatra will culminate at Chennai via Ettayapuram (birth place of Bharati), Madurai, Tiruchirappalli and Villupuram.
