Police personnel attached to the anti-land grab cell on Saturday interrogated former minister for social welfare P. Geetha Jeevan for three hours in an alleged land scam involving N. Periyasami, district secretary, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, and his son P. Jagan.

Earlier, the Tuticorin police had searched her residence at Polepettai and a hotel owned by her family to ascertain the whereabouts of Mr. Periyasami and Mr. Jagan.

Mr. Periyasami has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. Hearing on the petition has been adjourned to Monday.

When Ms. Jeevan proceeded to the Tuticorin All-Woman Police Station, DMK cadres raised slogans against the AIADMK Government and laid siege to the station for a while.

Talking to reporters, she said that the government was indulging in vindictive action by foisting cases against DMK functionaries to divert attention from the sufferings of people, who were bearing the brunt of frequent power cuts, rise in prices of essential commodities and deteriorating law and order.

Mohammed Fathima of Caldwell Colony had lodged a complaint with the Thermal Nagar police against Mr. Periyasami and others, alleging they had usurped 15 acres and 85 cents at Mullakad using fake documents. A case was filed on September 24, 2012 against 13 persons, including Mr. Periyasami and Mr. Jagan. A few days later, it was referred to anti-land grab cell.
