The first year B.E. classes would begin on March 17. The date for second and third year B.E courses would be announced later. Examinations of all faculties would be conducted as per schedule.

Following the death of Gautam Kumar, II-year B.E. student, in a road accident on February 28, students went on the rampage on the university campus and at the Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital.

When the police tried to disperse them, some of them jumped into a canal near the university. Sumit Kumar, who was rescued from the canal, died on the way to hospital.

Two other students, Ashish Ranjan Kumar and Mohammad Sarfaraz Rab, were found missing. After a night-long search, their bodies were recovered from the canal on March 2.

Following this the university was closed indefinitely on March 2.

All the students who died were doing second year engineering courses.

District Revenue Officer S. Natarajan is conducting an inquiry.
