Tamil, which the is official and legislative language in Tamil Nadu, should become the official language in High Courts too, former Assembly Speaker and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader P.H. Pandiyan said on Monday.
Addressing a demonstration organised by the party in Madurai, Mr. Pandiyan said even after 63 years of Independence the 6.5 crore people of Tamil Nadu were fighting to make Tamil the official language in High Courts. The issue was not confined to advocates alone, he said. It was the problem of every citizen of Tamil Nadu.
Party urban district secretary K. Raju, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Moovendar Munnani Kazhagam counterparts M. Boominathan and Bhagavathi were among those who addressed the cadres of alliance parties.

Among those who were present were former AIADMK district secretaries V.V. Rajan Chellappa, V.R. Rajangam, M.S. Pandian, former Minister, Valarmathi Jebaraj and party councillors.
Condemning the Tamil Nadu government for not taking steps to make Tamil official language in courts, AIADMK cadre, led by former Industries Minister Nainar Nagendran, staged a demonstration in front of Tirunelveli railway junction.
Addressing the protestors, Mr. Nagendran said while countries such as Singapore and Malaysia had given official status to Tamil, such recognition had not been given in a State where the language was the mother tongue.

Former Mayor A. Jayarani, former MP S. Murugesan, Tirunelveli City district secretary of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam K.M.A. Nizam, MDMK south zone spokesperson Minnal Mohamed Ali and Communist Party of India, Tirunelveli city district secretary, Esakkimuthu participated in the protest.
The party held protests in all district headquarters in the State.
