51 life convicts to take Plus Two exam

Fifty-four convicts from various prisons in the State will appear for Plus-Two examination at an exclusive centre in the Puzhal Central Prison from Monday.

Among them are 51 life convicts. Last year, as many as 37 convicts had written the higher secondary examinations.

Hall tickets have been issued to the candidates and special arrangements made for them to study, said S. Rajendran, Superintendent of Puzhal Central Prison II. “We have provided the candidates a separate study hall. They are being given refreshments at regular intervals at nights as well.

Around five inmates, who completed their graduation in the prison, are helping those appearing this year with the last-minute preparation,” Mr. Rajendran told

This year, there are no women convicts taking the examinations. The exclusive centre for Plus Two board examinations at Puzhal Central Prison has been in existence since 2008.

According to R. Arivudainambi, Superintendent of the Madurai Central Prison, 12 candidates from Madurai are life convicts.
