Four persons, including two women, died on the spot when the car in which they were travelling collided with a tourist van near Veppanatham on Tiruchy Main Road here in the wee hours on Monday.
The police said Kadir alias Vijay (38), his wife Suguna (33), worker Janaki (32), all from Balasamudram in Thottiyam in Tiruchi district and Tamil Selvan (35) of Erumapatty were working in a sweet stall near the bus stand in Namakkal. In the absence of bus facility to their villages during night hours, they used to travel in the car belonging to the shop.
When the car was on Namakkal - Tiruchy Main Road, it collided with a van coming from Kumbakonam to Salem around 1 am. In the impact, the car was completely damaged and Janaki, Suguna, Vijay and driver Raja alias Natarajan (30) died on the spot.

Tamil Selvan suffered serious injuries and was taken to District Government Headquarters Hospital in Namakkal and later shifted to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital in Salem. Van driver Veerapan (50) of Panamarathupatty also suffered injuries and was admitted to the hospital.
The bodies were taken to the hospital and after post-mortem they were handed over to their relatives. On hearing the news, shop owner Krishna Moorthy is said to have suffered chest pain and was admitted to the government hospital.
Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy visited the accident spot and also the injured in the hospital. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
