3,840 apartments to be built for World Tamil meet

The Tamil Nadu government on Monday said it would construct 3,840 apartments in Coimbatore, the venue of the World Classical Tamil conference later this year (June) and also improve roads in that district at a total cost of Rs. 177.85 crore.

The government would spend Rs. 118 crore to construct the apartments at Ukkagadam and Ammankulam areas, for which funds have been sanctioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National City Development scheme, an official press release said.

Roads in Coimbatore would also be developed at a cost of Rs. 59.85 crore.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi had issued necessary orders in this regard, the release added.
