The city police arrested 14 persons and seized a huge quantity of banned chewable tobacco products over the past two days.
On Thursday, the T.P. Chatram police raided a house in KVN Puram, where three persons were packing tobacco products such as pan masala and gutka in sachets for sale. All three were arrested. Raw tobacco products and machines used for packing, and cash were seized from them.
The Ashok Nagar police apprehended four persons, who indulged in selling the banned products through shops and all of them were remanded. The North Beach police arrested three persons while they were manufacturing gutka in a house. A tea shop was raided by the Shankar Nagar Police and the shopkeeper was arrested for selling the banned products. As many as 20 packets of hans were seized from him.

Following instructions from the Police Commissioner A.K.Viswanathan, frequent raids are being conducted across the city.
Following a tip-off, a special team was conducting surveillance near a Government School on Padasalai street and caught a 44-year-old tobacco seller. The Muthialpet police raided a house near a temple on Broadway and found the owner to be preparing tobacco-mixed products. The police recovered raw material, finished products and wet-grinders and arrested him.
The Ice House Police nabbed a petty shop owner while he was selling tobacco products in sachets.
