13 injured after lorry rams government bus at Madhanur

The driver’s cabin of a container lorry fell off a bridge after ramming into a government bus injuring nine persons at Madhanur during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to police, Zaheer Khan was driving the lorry from Rajasthan to Irungattukottai. He lost control of the vehicle while plying on the bridge at Madhanur along the National Highway 48.

The lorry hit the bus plying on the opposite lane at 3.30 a.m. and in the impact the driver’s cabin of vehicle fell off the bridge.

Nine persons, including the driver of the government bus that was travelling from Vellore to Tirupattur, sustained injuries. They were admitted to the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital, Adukkamparai.

Zaheer Khan and the lorry’s cleaner also sustained injuries and they have been admitted to the Government Hospital, Ambur. Police said the container lorry was plying empty.

Ambur Taluk police have registered a case and are investigating.
