10,000 Home Guards to be on poll duty

As many as 10,000 Home Guards would be on deployment supplementing the efforts of the police to ensure peaceful conduct of elections, said K. Muthukaruppan, Additional Director General of Police/Director of Civil Defence and Additional Commandant General of Tamil Nadu Home Guards. He was speaking at a meeting of the Area Commander of Home Guards to review the functioning of Home Guards and to plan for poll duty.

Mr. Muthukaruppan said that as on date Tamil Nadu Home Guards had 12,000 personnel, including 2,250 women. The ADGP said that a proposal had been sent to the government for getting the allowances for Home Guards increased.
