“Help stop child marriages”

Kanniyakumari Collector Sajjansingh R. Chavan has asked the public to alert officials concerned if they come across plans for child marriage.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Anti-Dowry Law and Family Violence Protection Act’ here on Saturday, Mr. Chavan said the people should help the district administration eradicate the evil of child marriage.

If a married woman died before the end of seven years of her marriage, the respective Revenue Divisional Officer or the Sub-Collector would conduct an inquiry, the Collector said. The seminar was organised by Social Welfare Department. District Social Welfare Officer Uma Maheshwari and Project Officer of District Child Welfare Kumudha and others participated.
