Moderate speed, full concentration while driving and early departure were necessary to reach the desired destination safely and prevent road accidents, said Collector N. Venkatachalam.

Addressing a training programme for school bus and van drivers here on Tuesday, he said that drivers should follow road rules strictly as they were responsible for the lives of hundreds of school and college students. Maintaining prescribed speed limit was a must and full concentration while driving was also essential.

They should avoid using mobile phones and consuming liquor while driving. They should not drive vehicles when they were tired, sleepy or dull. Disturbed mind would affect concentration on the road. Drivers should not speak to others while driving as it would divert their attention. Students should be made to stand in queues while boarding the school bus or van.

Acute care should be taken while chasing vehicles on main roads. Overloading and over speeding would certainly lead to accidents. Following road rules would scale down accidents sizably, he advised. Superintendent of Police V. Baskaran accompanied him.
