“BJP’s third front plan won’t succeed’’

October 08, 2013 11:13 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:03 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Dravidar Kazhagam leader K. Veeramani on Monday sought to dismiss the efforts made to create a third front led by the BJP and another group headed by PMK leader S. Ramadoss, saying that such attempts were very unlikely to succeed in Tamil Nadu politics.

“Every one has the right to dream,” he said when asked about a group of community leaders who were being brought on one platform by PMK as an alternative to existing political formations in the state.

He also felt that the third front plan conceived by the BJP and its efforts to rope in the MDMK and DMDK would not succeed. “The third front is like having a third hand on the back of a human body,” he quipped.

Mr. Veeramani rejected the argument that a government headed by the BJP at the Centre could make a difference for the Sri Lankan Tamils, and said the failure of the previous BJP regime to find a suitable solution was responsible for the present crisis.

“If the BJP had solved the problem, it would not have left it to the UPA to try and resolve the Sri Lankan Tamil issue. Moreover, Mr. Vaiko should realise that it was the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh that rolled out a red carpet welcome to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa,” he noted.

Asked about Yadava Mahasabha leader Devanathan’s demand for action against him for ridiculing the Hindu gods, Mr. Veeramani said he was ready face such challenges. “I dare them to initiate action against me. It will provide us an opportunity to explain our stand,” he added.
